Motorized Shades and Drapery have been around for many years, but have become much more affordable and popular in the last few years.  They can be integrated into home automation systems including Lutron, Crestron, Vantage and others with proper planning and knowledge.  Hunter Douglas and other manufacturers have integrated motors into their products to lower, raise and control the tilt of their products for remote light control.  Even shutter manufacturers have jumped on the band wagon providing automated tilt control for shutters.

Whether you need remote convenience or shades that track the sun by external light or hour of the day and day of the year,   motorization can be the touch that sets your home apart.

Note that these systems vary widely in capability and there are others not listed. These are the more popular systems available. Note that companies such as Lutron, a lighting-control company also offers their own motorized window shades in addition to their primary area of electronic lighting controls. Many shade manufacturers such as Hunter Douglas, Graber and Comfortex, primarily use Somfy motors, while drapery manufacturers  use BTX and Makita Motors. Both Somfy and BTX manufacture  shade motors and drapery motors while Makita specializes in drapery motor systems only. SM Automatic, based in Los Angeles, focuses  on commercial and large custom treatments.

If you are interested in motorized shades or blinds and drapery other than standard shades from Hunter Douglas or another shade manufacturer,  you will need custom motorization.
