Note that these systems vary widely in capability and there are others not listed. These are the more popular systems available. Note that companies such as Lutron, a lighting-control company also offers their own motorized window shades in addition to their primary business of electronic lighting controls. Many shade manufacturers primarily use Somfy motors, while drapery manufacturers  use BTX and Makita Motors. Both Somfy and BTX offer  shade motors and drapery motors while Makita specializes in drapery motor systems only. SM Automatic, based in Los Angeles, focuses  on commercial and large custom treatments.

If you are interested in motorized shades or blinds and drapery other than standard shades from Hunter Douglas or another shade manufacturer,  you will need custom motorization.
